Are You Disconnected by Higher Communication Bills?

When running a business, there are many bills that can quickly add up. As they do, you may become a little suspect as to whether or not you can keep your small business out of the red over time.

For many running smaller companies, the trick is finding the best deals and savings on products for your office and/or for the home if that is in fact your office. Either way, taking the time to find potential savings is well worth it, especially in an economy where the news can go from good to bad in a short period of time.

So, what are some savings you should be snapping up?

Communicate the Notion of Lower Office Expenses

To begin with, you should set aside time on a monthly basis to review where your money is going to for the following business needs:

  • Office Supplies – Approximately how much are you spending for simple office needs like paper, computers, printers, fax machines, phones for you and/or your staff? Look into buying supplies in bulk instead of running to get them individually when you need them (i.e. paper products, folders, stamps etc.). Buying them in bulk ultimately can save you money over the long run;
  • Communications – Whether you run your business out of an office or you and your team work from your respective homes, your communication bills can add up over time. Check to see what you’re paying for phone service and whether or not you can save on your home phone The same holds true if you and your team are using cell phones out on the road. Look to see if there is a package deal available for both the phones and services. As for your Internet service, are you getting the best deal possible? Once again, bulk deals can ultimately lower your communication costs when it comes to Internet needs;
  • Advertising and Marketing – Have you stopped to see what your small business is spending on advertising and marketing needs? Instead of doing more traditional letter/flyer and email marketing campaigns (which can add up over time), have you thought about mobile marketing, podcasts, videos and more to promote your brand? Using more technology in your advertising and marketing pitches can save you money and actually reach more ears and eyes. If you do decide to take this route, make sure you have a plan in place. Trying to wing it will ultimately fail and make you and your business look lackluster to say the least. If you don’t have the time or experience to do podcasts and videos, hire someone or a company that specializes in both.

Communicating with current and potential customers should always be high on the priority list for any small business owner.

He or she needs to be in-tune with what consumers want, all the while doing their best to save money in getting the message out there in the first place.
